Once the patient is stable, they may be released from inpatient treatment.
The facility providing treatment may help the patient:
- with prescriptions
- set up social services
- arrange living arrangements
- locate support groups
The maximum period for court ordered treatment is 365 days
- The maximum period for inpatient treatment:
- 90 days for a person found to be a danger to self
- 180 days for a person found to be dangerous to others or persistently or acutely disabled
- 365 days for a gravely disabled person
While inpatient treatment is being conducted, the medical professionals at the facility have to report the ongoing progress to the court. The information they provide to the court is similar to what is provided in Step 4. Items relating to the progress of a person that may be discussed include:
- Where do they live and how do they provide for their basic needs?
- Do they listen to and follow directions?
- Are they taking medication?
- Are drugs or alcohol a concern?
- Are they actively taking part in improving their behavioral health situation?
